Aus der 2018 im Depot Mayfield, dem multi-use space for arts, music, industry and culture in Manchester, ausgebrüteten Musik zu „Everything that happened and would happen“, einem multidisziplinären Musiktheaterstück von Heiner Goebbels, wurde im Januar 2022 im «La Muse en Circuit» in Paris The Mayfield (Intakt CD 426), indem der Sounddesigner Willi Bopp aus 95 improvisierten Parts 16 collagierte und abgespeicherte.

Freie Improvisation der kraftvollsten Art: Im alten Bahnhof Mayfield von Manchester haben sich Meister dieser freigeistigen Musik getroffen. Basierend auf Heiner Goebbels Stück «Everything That Happened and Would Hap-pen» haben Perkussionistin Camille Émaille, Gitarrist Nicolas Perrin und andere alte Aufnahmen von Goebbels am präparierten Piano umspielt - und eine Brücke zwischen kontrolliertem Noise und Mu-sique concrète geschlagen.

The Mayfield is de naam van het leegstaande treinstation in Manchester waar componist en pianist Heiner Goebbels in 2018 het concept voor zijn multimediawerk Everything That Happend And Would Happen collega's zoals Paolo Fresu, Clark Terry, James Moody en Lee Konitz. Zijn melan-cholische en bedachtzame spel heeft al vele harten veroverd. Lundgren gaat met de Brazilianse gitarist Yamandu Costa een bijzonder muzikaal avontuur aan.

Il progetto prende il nome dal Mayfield Depot, una stazione abbandonata di Manchester dove il sestetto ha provato e scritto il disco, ispirato dal luogo stesso. Ampia la gamma dei timbri: dalle percussioni di Camille Emaille alle ance di Gianni Gebbia, dalle Ondes Martenot di Cécile Lartigau al piano preparato di Heiner Goebbels, con Nicolas Perrin a chitarra ed elettronica e Willi Bopp ad occuparsi del sound design. In uno studio creato da Luc Ferrari apposta per la musica elettroacustica i musicisti hanno improvvisato 95 (l) tracce, che poi Bopp ha selezionato e assemblato creando da queste un collage. Il risultato è un flusso ininterrotto suddiviso in sedici trac-ce: profondo, misterioso, denso, astratto e organico, sommesso e potente come un'elegia dopo una cata- strofe.

Per una volta parliamo di musica e musicisti che operano in un ambito non prettamente jazzistico, anche se si tratta di musica improvvisata e con la presenza di un jazzista italiano, Gianni Gebbia ai sassofoni. L’ascolto può sembrare ostico ad orecchie non abituate, ma con pazienza e disponibilità si possono aprire finestre impensate e impensabili. Il compositore e regista Heiner Goebbels (*1952) è uno dei più importanti esponenti della scena musicale e teatrale contemporanea. Le sue composizioni per ensemble e grandi orchestre pubblicate da Ricordi Berlin sono attualmente eseguite in tutto il mondo, così come diversi suoi lavori teatrali musicali e concerti messi in scena.
